Mary Magdalene is called "Equal to the Apostles" and "Apostle to the Apostles" because the was the first to see Christ after His resurrection; the one He sent to tell the Apostles that He had risen. She stands outside the Tomb, holding a bottle of myrrh, which she had brought with her to prepare His body for burial, not understanding that He had risen. Far from being a prostitute, as some have thought, Mary Magdalene was a rich woman of noble birth, who supported Jesus ministry while He was on earth, and who testified to His resurrection in Cesar's court.
