Instruction in the technique of icon writing in the traditional manner, is offered for those who would be blessed by the experience of creating an icon.  Classes are suitable both for beginners who have no previous artistic training and for experienced painters.   The cost is $550, plus approximately $100 for materials.

The process of writing an icon is a spiritual discipline, involving prayer: prayer with each stroke of the iconographer’s brush, and meditation during the process of painting the icon.  It takes many hours to make even a simple icon; workshops can either be conducted as a series of Saturday classes or as week long retreat.  Instruction includes education on the significance and role of icons.  Participants will have completed an icon by the end of the workshop
